MINI WORKSHOPS New this Year! MAGIC is offering Mini-Workshops for our Wednesday morning session. These are not as long as a full course but a deeper dive into a technical topic. No additional fee or registration required! Options include: Survey123, ArcPro Tips and Tricks, R for Open Source Programming, Python in ArcGIS Pro, How to Become a GISP, and Women in GIS. Additionally, during this time we will have an open session on scripting including ArcPy and Arcade in the Sponsor area. Stop in and ask an expert for help or visit with our awesome sponsors. |
Lidar-derived Elevation Data: The professional guide to its metrics and accuracy Qassim A. Abdullah, Ph.D., CP, PLSThe Educational session on lidar data will help participants to:
1. Understanding Lidar fundamentals and how it works Scanning mechanism
Women in GIS: A forum discussion This Mini workshop with start with a panel discussion with a group of women that work in GIS in a variety of capacities. The discussion will explore their stories and experiences in the workforce. Then the floor will be opened for questions and comments that allow for broad audience engagement to explore: What is going right, what can be improved upon, how community helps grow women in GIS, and more. Survey123 Automation with low-code solutions Brian Culpepper – CAST, University of Arkansas Workflow automation within small GIS operations is simpler than you think! We’ll review; deconstruct a no-code/low-code implementation of automated reporting and task tracking within the ArcGIS online platform. This workshop will summarize five years of experience of using these techniques within low-code technologies and prepare others for jump-starting similar approaches within their GIS organizations. Level Up your customer feedback, end-user satisfaction and project team or workforce documentation of day-to-day operations within your projects. The Pollinator Partnerships’ coordination of regional seed collection volunteers has improved considerably using these techniques and we want to share our experiences and those lessons learned with diving into this no-code, cloud-based arena with the MAGIC membership! Introduce R to Your Geospatial Workflow Chris Seeger and Jay Maxwell - Iowa State University R is a popular open-source programming language used for statistical computing and graphics and is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux-based systems. It provides a wide range of statistical and graphical techniques, making it a powerful tool for data analysis. This introductory lecture will cover the basics of R programming, data types, and variables. We will also explore how to read and manipulate common data files, create basic plots, and visualize spatial data using R. By the end of this lecture, attendees will have a basic understanding of the R programming language and be ready to explore more advanced topics on their own. No prior programming experience is required. Topics to be covered:
GIS Automation using Python in ArcGIS Pro and Jupyter Notebooks Jade Finch - Impact7G Start exploring GIS automation in ArcGIS Pro using ArcPy and Jupyter Notebooks. Learn basic Python scripting techniques and methods to start automating those repetitive GIS tasks. Practical examples and demos will be provided to get you on your way to learning GIS automation in Python. |
