Are you someone who enjoys hands-on work and thrives on seeing the real-world impact of what you do? We are looking for detail-oriented individuals with strong analytical skills and a knack for problem-solving to join our Geospatial Operations Team as a GIS Technician!

 

In this role, you’ll split your time between the office and the field within Lancaster County. Expect to roll up your sleeves and conduct field checks, including verifying asset information, use GIS applications, edit features in GIS and open energized equipment, to confirm that our GIS system matches the physical world. When you spot data discrepancies, you’ll take prompt action—documenting and updating the system to ensure our data is always current. You’ll also work closely with different teams across the company to keep up to date with changes made to the system through maintenance and new construction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Responsible for performing technical functions related to the enterprise GIS system to include creating and maintaining documents and records, conducting office and field research, and assisting staff with design projects. Completes independent tasks on large projects with minimal guidance. Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.  

 

  • Update and maintain electric distribution facilities in company's Geographic Information system and ensure data integrity. This includes but not limited to Substation, Transmission, Distribution, Feeder, Communication, fiber, Secondary and Meter data.  
  • Interprets and implements data into GIS from as-builts, construction site visits, SAP work order management and emergency work notifications into standard company symbology utilizing ESRI, SAP, and AutoCAD.  
  • Inspects, collects, and verifies data and labels electrical facilities for use with GIS/CAD system records per LES procedures. Completion of these duties requires the opening and inspection of energized, high-voltage electrical equipment or entering electrical substations with provided training.  
  • Interprets, updates, and implements as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering plans, recorded maps, deeds, legal descriptions, exhibit data, imagery and related source documents and incorporates them into GIS using various methods including coordinate geometry (COGO), digitizing, and GPS.
  • Creates output from GIS/CAD systems, including plots, reports, and drawings for various departments, contractors, utilities, and government agencies.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED  

  • Ability to apply knowledge of GIS and/or CAD software and systems.  
  • Ability to apply knowledge of transmission, substation, and distribution design principles.  
  • Ability to apply knowledge of engineering design plans.  

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

  • Associate degree in related field, and  
  • Two years of GIS/CAD or drafting experience, or  
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.  

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES  

  • Valid driver’s license
